On The Crooked Road, Virginia's Heritage Music Trail, Creeper Trail Bike Rental - Shuttle has hosted live bluegrass and mountain music jam sessions every Saturday night at 7PM for the past 3 years, but due to other business obligations and our commitment to providing the very best Virginia Creeper Trail bike rental and shuttle service for our customers, we will no longer host the jam sessions after April 2010.
Instead, the Saturday night jams will be at the Whitetop Community Center. Just 1/4 mile out the road from our Whitetop bike shop, it's still close enough to enjoy some live music after a day of biking the Creeper Trail without having to travel a long distance.
Everyone is welcome to come join in, or just come and listen and enjoy the fellowship of a real jam session, and concessions will be available..
The Whitetop VA community and surrounding areas have been well known for decades for its' abundance of talented musicians. Wayne Henderson lives nearby and is internationally known for his instrument making as well as his music making talents. This is also the hometown of mountain music legend Albert Hash. Former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt rode the Virginia Creeper train to our community in the 1930's to attend a fiddler's convention on Whitetop Mountain.
Our high country of Grayson County VA is rich in musical history and this legacy continues today. Because our community is so proud of its musical heritage, the Whitetop Community Center provides not only a place for the locals to gather on the weekends, but also a place for the many visitors to our area each year to stop by and listen to some good old fashion mountain music.
These are jam sessions so if anyone is planning a trip to our mountain and you can play or sing, be sure to pack your instruments and feel free to stop by and join in. Otherwise, just bring an ear, relax after a day of biking the VA Creeper Trail, and listen to the music.
Join us for music on the mountain at the Whitetop
Community Center Saturday evenings at 7PM!
We have 3 annual festivals here in the Whitetop VA community sponsored by the Mount Rogers Volunteer Fire Department & Resque Squad, and several other annual festivals in surrounding communities throughout the year.
